"Last Flare" Trailer
LAST FLARE, the thrilling true story of the doomed fishing boat, the A.C.E.
The captain shares the tale, revealing that he "lost a man at sea that day..." But who?
A courageous and heartbreaking film of survival and loss...
LAST FLARE shares a deeper story on the cost of ambition, the bonds of camaraderie, and the enduring impact of trauma. It suggests that redemption and healing are elusive, and sometimes, the most profound losses are internal.
Scott William Winters as "Mitch", delivers a powerful and nuanced performance.
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT:
LAST FLARE is based on the thrilling true story of the fishing boat known as the A.C.E and its crew. The film shares a deeper story on the cost of ambition, the bonds of camaraderie, and the enduring impact of trauma. It suggests that redemption and healing are elusive, and sometimes, the most profound losses are internal.
As the director, one of the technical challenges was that this story takes place primarily out on the Pacific Ocean as the boat's crew are thrown into the turbulent sea after their fishing vessel is capsized by a huge tsunami sized wave. Their only hope for survival is the boat's small utility skiff, but it is chained to the sinking A.C.E. The big "catch" (pun intended) for our team was that we filmed this movie almost entirely in New Mexico!
I am a director who also edits and creates visual effects. For this particular film, those skills needed to work together seamlessly. We needed to have a clear idea of what would work and what would not with our smaller independent budget. Lucky for me, we had an amazing New Mexico crew! Most of them, were fresh off of working on t.v. shows like "Stranger Things" and "Dark Winds". For me, this was epic! Carma Harvey who normally works as an Art Director or Prop Master on bigger projects stepped up and took the helm as our Production Designer in LAST FLARE. She brought with her a talented team, which allowed me to breath easier as the films director and special effects supervisor. Even though I have been a long time editor, this was the biggest and most challenging project for me to date. Director of Photography Keith Jefferies and I had worked together before, so he and I took on the challenges and discussed every intricate detail. In the end, our team delivered epically, and I couldn't be more thrilled to present "LAST FLARE" to you! I truly hope you enjoy it and are moved by the deeper underlying story at play. The actors truly delivered honest and heartfelt performances!
